Psalm 23:4 "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." (New King James Version)

(Reina-Valera 1960)

Some people are born with a fast-paced approach to life. As babies, they crawl faster than their parents can keep up with them. After they learn to stand, they may take two wobbly steps and start running. Their resulting injuries sometimes cause people to accuse their parents of child abuse. As those children grow up and become adults, they continue to plunge through life at breakneck speed.

However, that is not the picture we gain of Jesus when He trod the earth in human form. He moved at a pace that enabled His disciples and followers to keep up with Him. If He had been in a hurry, He would not have been able to talk with them or address their needs.

One of the most memorable actions of Jesus while He was on earth in physical form was that He walked on water. He did not run across it. Nor did he rush hurriedly. He walked. (If you are not familiar with this event, I have printed the passage from the Bible at the bottom of this posting as it appears in Mark 6:45-51.*)

That is what we must do no matter how uncertain our circumstances may appear at the time.

In whatever situation we find ourselves, our Heavenly Shepherd knows what lies ahead. He has already scouted out the path. When we put our trust in Him, we are in His care so that we don't have to tread nervously. There is no need to run in fear because we follow our Lord. Therefore, we can walk in confidence and safety. Psalm 37:23 assures us of this when it states that, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way." (New King James Version)

This assurance applies to men, women, and children that trust in the Lord with all their hearts.

Before you become concerned about your surroundings and where the Lord is leading you, give some thought to how you carry yourself when you walk. Throw back your shoulders, stand up straight, and slow your pace so that you stride with assurance. When you follow the Good Shepherd, you can walk confidently no matter where He leads you.

Psalm 23 - 1) The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. 2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3) He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. 4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever." (New King James Version)

*Mark 6:45-51 "45) Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. 46) And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray. 47) Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. 48) Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. 49) And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; 50) for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." 51) Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled." (New King James Version)
