HAPPY FEBRUARY!

Are you getting tired of winter? For those of us that live in the Northern Hemisphere, it is difficult to remember our blessings when all we see are snow shovels and ice icicles. Distress doesn’t always come from military battles, like the victorious one that King David gave thanks for in Psalm 118:10 (NKJV): “All nations surrounded me, But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.” Stress and distress can also come from fighting the battles of winter.

However, there is reason to rejoice amid the cold days of February. While it is true that we have not seen our last snow, the days are growing longer. More sunlight always cheers me up. Yes, my allergies will start to bother me, as they do each February. However, that tells me that the plants know that warm weather is coming, even if I can’t see them at work.

Lastly, February is the shortest month. Fewer days to heat the house and to use electricity and water brings the possibility of having more money than month.

Despite the dreary days, we can praise God for February because we know that He is always there, providing for us and protecting us. He does so in ways that we cannot see – just like the seedlings that are stirring underground and preparing to shoot forth in a matter of weeks.

So, let’s sip hot chocolate while we can.

Psalms 118:24 (NRSV): "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Warmer weather will be here before we know it!
